The Temple of Artemis at Ephesus

The Temple of Artemis at Ephesus is one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. Over time the Temple of Artemis at Ephesus has served as a marketplace, a place a cult met, and a place people worshiped the goddess Artemis. Artemis was the goddess of chastity, virginity, the hunt, the moon, and the natural environment. She very was very highly worshipped.

The Temple of Artemis at Ephesus was constructed 550 B.C. by the lydians. It was then burned down 356 B.C. by Herostratus. It was rebuilt 323 B.C. by the greeks, but was destroyed again due to plundering by the Goths, an East Germanic tribe. Its modern location would be found near Selçuk, Izmir Province, Turkey.
